Over the course of the lockdown, if there’s something that all of us have missed the most, it has to be our favourite foods from our favourite restaurants. From biryani and pizza to brownies and shakes, all of us have ranted about missing restaurant food at least once in these last six months.
Nonetheless, as the restrictions of movement ease, restaurants are opening up again. However, most of us are still averse to in-person dining and would much rather order meals through Swiggy or Zomato, with the WHO having said that “contact-less” options of dining are safe, for the most part. Keeping this recent trend in mind, here we have the 10 best restaurants in Gurgaon, divided according to what you may want, that offer delivery/takeout.
For when you’re looking for pocket-friendly takeout, try:
Naivedyam: If there’s one place for which all vegetarians and non-vegetarians of Gurgaon unite, it is Naivedyam. Often touted as one of the best South Indian restaurants in the city with its fantastic paper plain dosa, variety of chutneys, and the most decadent Kesri Bhath, Naivedyam is equally pocket-friendly – as hungry as you may be, a meal for two likely won’t cost you more than Rs. 600.
TPG Recommends: Paper Plain Dosa, Kesri Bhath, Mysore Pak.
2. Biryani Blues: Food delivery platform Swiggy recently reported that Biryani was the most ordered dish in India during the lockdown. That doesn’t come as a surprise though – chicken or mutton biryani is almost a weekly staple for most of us. Biryani Blues, similarly, is one such restaurant that ensures that you satiate your Biryani craving without burning a whole in your pocket. Biryani Blues is also reported to follow the required safety standards, as per the Swiggy app.
TPG Recommends: Fiery Chicken 65 Biryani, Boneless Chicken Dum Biryani.
For when you want veg-friendly options:
3. Burma Burma: Remember the time you’d eagerly wait to try out that new cuisine with your friends? That’s a memory that many of us are still latching onto, but don’t worry! Burma Burma is here to our rescue. With an extensive menu of all-vegetarian classic and fusion Burmese dishes (and daily temperature checks), Burma Burma ensures that you can enjoy the new-cuisine fun from the comfort and safety of your home.
TPG Recommends: Coconut Milk Dessert, Samosa Soup, Kaffir Lime Cooler.
4. Halidram's: Let’s face it: Haldiram’s was a favourite way before COVID-19 and it’s no surprise that it’s on this list. We’ve all tried to make gol gappe or chaat at home at least once during the lockdown, but nothing gets close to the classic Haldiram’s taste. So, when you’re craving vegetarian North Indian street food, you know Haldiram’s is the place to order from.
TPG Recommends: Raj Kachori, Bhalla Papdi, Gol Gappe.
For when you want the taste of India:
5. Made in Punjab: Butter Chicken. That’s it. That’s all I have to say to convince you to give Made in Punjab’s delivery a shot. For the vegetarians, Dal Makhni or Paneer Tikka, whatever suits your tastebuds.
TPG Recommends: Butter Chicken, Dal Makhni, Paneer Lababdar, Amritsari Macchi.
6. The Potbelly Rooftop Cafe: As a Bihari restaurant, this may come as a surprise to many of you. Living in North India, we tend to confine the “taste of India” to Punjabi food. However, when we look beyond just Punjabi food (that’s great too, though!), we realize that there’s so much more delectability waiting for us in the other states of India. One such state with a distinct ethnic cuisine is Bihar, and the Potbelly Rooftop Café does the job of bringing it to us, from more than 1000km away.
TPG Recommends: Litti Chokha, Champaran Style Mutton Platter, Tomato Chokha.
For when you’re craving Pan-Asian:
7. Berco's: The variety of Pan-Asian restaurants in Gurgaon can make the choice for ordering quire confusing. However, Berco’s, as one of the oldest Pan-Asian restaurants here, offers one of the greatest spreads in the best price. With its large portions and apt restaurant safety measures, Berco’s should be your next choice for an Asian meal.
TPG Recommends: Chicken Bangkok Bowl with Steamed Rice, Dimsums.
8. Mamagoto: Mamagoto has been a dine-in favourite for most of us for years. However, the lockdown has allowed Mamagoto to adapt to delivery as well, and now, we can enjoy their signature rice and noodle bowls and their dumplings atop our own dining tables.
TPG Recommends: Chunky Caramel Sponge Cake, Street Style Spicy Dumplings, Soggy Thai Basil Fried Rice.
For when you want to indulge your sweet tooth:
9. The Cake story: There’s little you can do with lockdown birthdays. No friends (at least physically), no surprise parties, no hoards of balloons and store-bought banners. However, the one thing that you can do is order a cake, and you better make sure it compensates for the lack of everything else. The Cake Story, similarly, offers a variety of birthday cakes for you to choose from: whether you’d like a staple chocolate cheesecake or a more exuberant rainbow cake, The Cake Story’s got you covered.
TPG Recommends: Red Velvet Cake, Rainbow Cake, Blueberry Cake.
10. Angels in my kitchen: Oreo Brownies. Choco-chip Muffins. Lemon Tarts. Blueberry Cheesecakes. Angels in my Kitchen has got it all. If an Oreo brownie isn’t reason enough for you to order already, know that their Salted Caramel pastry is out there too.
TPG Recommends: Oreo Brownie, Salted Caramel Pastry, Brownie Cheesecake, Lemon Tart.
